3 Ideas To Prepare Mouthwash At Home

A mouthwash keeps the breath fresh and conveys a nice, pleasant and clean feeling. A homemade recipe for a mouthwash is easy to prepare and can be made with items from your own kitchen or refrigerator. Here are my three favorite recipes for a homemade mouthwash to try:

Fresh and mint with a shot of rosemary

Rosemary is slightly antiseptic, mint gives freshness and a clean feeling. Together, these two popular herbs provide an effective mouthwash that refreshes the mouth and helps against infections.

Add 500 ml of mineral water to a small cooking pot. To this then add 1 teaspoon of fresh mint leaves, 1 teaspoon of fresh rosemary leaves and 1 teaspoon of aniseed seeds. On the stove, bring the whole to the boil, cover and boil for 20 minutes at low heat.

Rinse the mouth rinse and keep it in a clean bottle.

Soda mouthwash

Soda has a neutralizing effect on acid that can damage the teeth. A daily rinse with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of soda on a glass of water neutralizes odors on the tongue and teeth and also reaches to small spaces of the teeth to give a thorough cleanliness and protection against tooth decay. You can find many other natural mouthwash recipes on the net but I tried all of these.

Sage and salt mouthwash

Sage has long been used for medical purposes and it came from China. Sage has natural antibacterial and antiseptic effects. It should always be used only sparingly.

Take 250 ml of mineral water, half a teaspoonful of fresh ointment leaves and a knife tip of salt. Put this in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Leave to boil for 15-20 minutes, store in a bottle.

Tip : Sage, and many other herbs, can be easily grown on a window sill for a good supply that will last throughout the year. Mix the compost with some fine quartz sand, approx. 25% sand: 75% compost to imitate its Mediterranean environment.

  • That's nice idea!! So we can take care of our oral health still having no mouthwash at home. Sage and salt is the old way when we don't have the tooth-pastes.
