Your child just started teething and you are all confused about how to take care of his oral cavity from this age itself,so as to prevent any sort of oral infections and decay.

Well then this article is just for you…

Baby teeth do matter…

The 20 baby teeth are place holders for 32 adult teeth that will eventually replace them…that’s why you should keep baby teeth as healthy as possible as any problem in baby teeth will lead to problems in the adult teeth.

First dental visit…

Your child’s first dental visit should be in their first year as soon as their first tooth appears. This is the best time to learn all about your child’s teething process and how to take care of them.

Gum care…

You can take care of your child’s gums even before it has got any teeth. After feeding just take a soft moistened cloth and rub it along and around the gum area.

Bottle feeding…

Many kids develop a habit of drinking milk from the bottle, it is considered normal for a short period of time but the habit should be ended by their first birthday. Continuing bottle feeding for longer period of time can lead to baby bottle decay(decay of the baby teeth due to exposure to sugary liquid for a longer period of time). After the first birthday is the correct time for your child to start learning to drink from cups and then rinsing their mouth.

Mouth injuries…

Your kid is growing and learning how to keep their head up, crawl, walks and etc. so in this period of time they are prone to many injuries. If your child falls or has got even a minute mouth injury…you should rush to your dentist without delay and get it checked and treated.

Oral hygiene for baby teeth…

You can start cleaning your kid’s baby teeth by using a soft bristled infant tooth brush with water to remove plaque and debris as soon as they appear. Avoid using toothpaste with flouride till they learn to spit effectively. Gradually as they keep growing you can teach them how to bush and introduce to them, the idea of flossing.
