HOW TO PREVENT YOUR TEETH FROM GETTING EFFECTED OVER WINTER SEASON..???

Winters are usually a time for hot chocolate and snowy bliss, but it may not always be good news for your teeth. In winters you generally feel the effect on teeth while drinking hot coffee or tea we call it “zing’’ effect . which might be for a short duration or continuous. That is a sign that its now a high time you should visit  a qualified dentist to repair your teeth and unhealthy gums.

Enamel the outermost covering of the teeth are strongest in nature; so it doesn’t get affected from cold or hot temperature on a regular basis. Solid substances and normal drinks does not cause sensitivity on healthy teeth and gums. If the individual is aware for his/her oral hygiene, must have visited to dentist for fillings or any other prosthesis in their lifetime. Sometimes these fillings go under expansion and contraction due to the nature of dental material and immunity of the patient. These obvious change in the tooth causes sensitivity of the tooth from chewing or drinking hot or cold food and drinks.

Another thing that effects the hardness of teeth is clenching the teeth regularly for a long duration knowingly or unknowingly. Due to severe cold environment we clench the teeth and it leads to become a habit. And sometimes individuals have habit of clenching teeth in night while sleeping which they are not aware about. It slowly but effectively resorb the uppermost layer of teeth and which leads to continuous sensitivity.

We do regular brushing and still we have sensitivity, have you ever noticed that why ??… It can be understand by the technique of brushing and the condition of your gums. False technique and vigorous brushing may lead to recession & bleeding gums that causes exposure of root which causes sensitivity and acute pain. It can be cured after the proper treatment provided by the dentist.

Breathing through your nose as much as possible when you are outside will prevent you from sensitivity in winters. Cold air will hurt your teeth if they are exposed for even small periods of time, however once you close your mouth and cover your teeth with your lips and get your saliva circulating within the mouth the pain should recede.

Battling cold-sensitive teeth can be as simple as practicing good oral hygiene. Make sure you have regular dental check-ups at least twice a year,  there’s nothing to lose in visiting a dentist every six months. Many  toothpaste brands include sensitive options that are specially made to help reduce tooth sensitivity within a few weeks of regular usage but that should be prescribed by the dentist, advertising companies may lead to more destruction of the teeth and may harm the original structure.

In home remedies to reduce teeth sensitivity include rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash once or twice a day. This will create a layer over sensitive areas of your teeth. When choosing a toothbrush, always opt for the soft bristled version, and brush gently with the proper brushing technique so you’re not eroding your precious enamel.
