What are dental sealants?

While brushing and flossing can help you keep your child’s teeth and gums healthy, it is not always so easy to get into every crevice where food and plaque resides.

Sealants are very important for a child’s dental care. Dental sealant is a thin, tooth coloured flowable material applied in the grooves of premolars and molars to prevent tooth decay. Thus forming a protective shield on each tooth.

While a few parents are concerned over the benefits of sealants, it is proved that dental sealants help prevent 80% of cavities in children. As long as the sealants remain intact, the tooth surface will be protected from decay.

Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and may last a couple of years before reapplication is required. During your dental visit, we will check condition of your teeth and reapply them whenever necessary.

In addition to sealants, it is very important for your child to brush daily. Avoid intermittent snacking, consumption of candy, soft drinks. It is advisable to eat a balanced diet.

Put your child on the path of a lifelong, healthy smile.
