St. Louis, Missouri Dental Sedation Permit Renwals & Sedation Team Monitoring CourseOctober 30 & 31, 2010 8:00 am - 5:00 pmBreakfast & lunch will be provided.For dentist who are required to have 16 hours of CE for sedation permit renewals.For dental assistants and sedation team members who are involved in the administration of or monitoring of sedation patientsOur courses are comprised of comprehensive didactic training on the administration of sedation, analgesia, adverse event and airway management.All of our courses have been developed and are presented by anesthesiologists and anesthesia trained practitioners.Monitoring/assisting staff are encouraged to attend with the doctor, but not required.Course ObjectivesUpon completion of a course in oral sedation, the dentist will be able to:1. List and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of sedation2. Discuss the prevention, recognition and management of complications associated with sedation3. Administer sedation to patients in a clinical setting in a safe and effective manner4. Discuss the abuse potential, occupational hazards and other untoward effects of the agents utilized in sedation5. Discuss the pharmacology of the drug(s) selected for administration6. Discuss the precautions, indications, contraindications and adverse reactions associated with the drug(s) selected7. Administer the selected drug(s) to dental patients in a clinical setting in a safe and effective manner8. List the complications associated with techniques of sedation9. Describe a protocol for management of emergencies in the dental office and list and discuss the emergency drugs and equipment required for the prevention and management of emergency situations10. Discuss principles of advanced cardiac life support or an appropriate dental sedation/anesthesia emergency course equivalent11.
