Sinus floor augmentation (SFA) is one of the techniques that have been proposed for improving the long-term retention of dental implants. The results suggested that the maxillary sinus floor elevation through a lateral approach was a predictable and reliable technique. Within the limitations of this retrospective study, analysing the predictors of implant failure following maxillary sinus floor elevation through a lateral antrostomy, no statistically significant differences could be evidenced, comparing the type of graft, the procedure and the use of resorbable membranes when the closure of the antrostomy was performed.
