Dental Emergencies in Queens

Dental emergencies can happen at any time, often out of office hours. We make every effort to see patients in pain or discomfort as quickly as possible, understanding that a dental emergency can often seem frightening. If you need emergency dental treatment, our caring and gentle dental team is here to help you. Our dental clinic in Bayside can offer expert advice and information over the phone and will schedule an emergency dental appointment.

When you see our emergency dentist, we can make an expert diagnosis and provide emergency toothache relief, so you quickly feel more comfortable. We can also discuss suitable treatment options to provide a permanent solution to the problem. You will almost certainly need one or more follow-up appointments to complete your emergency dental treatment plan.

When to Seek Emergency Dental Care?
Some dental emergencies require more urgent care than others. Delaying a dental visit could significantly worsen the condition and may result in more complex and expensive dental treatment. Please contact us immediately to receive an expert urgent dental care and advice for the following situations.

What is Severe Tooth Pain?
A variety of dental problems can cause toothache. When you experience pain in and around a tooth, it can indicate inflammation and possible infection. You should be aware that a toothache will not heal on its own and requires dental care. Until you see an emergency dentist, you can minimize severe tooth pain by rinsing your mouth with warm water, applying an over-the-counter antiseptic, or taking a pain reliever.

What is Facial Swelling Emergency?
Facial swelling may be due to a dental abscess, where a tooth is severely infected and could be accompanied by fever, severe toothache, and swollen lymph nodes. A dental abscess requires urgent dental care as leaving it untreated can lead to serious complications that may even become life-threatening.

Broken, Avulsed, or Knocked-out Tooth
If a tooth has been knocked out completely or a piece has broken off, you definitely need emergency dental treatment. We may be able to reinsert a knocked-out tooth successfully, but we need to treat you in the first half an hour to an hour after the accident.
Please retrieve the tooth carefully and rinse off visible dirt, but don’t scrub the tooth root. You can try reinserting the tooth, but make sure it is the right way around. Hold it in place with a clean finger and see our dentist immediately. Otherwise, store the broken tooth in milk or saliva, or use a tooth preservation kit available from drugstores. Come and see us immediately.

Dental Crowns in Queens

A dental crown is a general dentistry procedure sometimes called a cap because it covers or ‘caps’ the entire tooth, so none of your original tooth is visible. We fabricate our dental crowns from a range of durable materials, including gold, porcelain fused to metal, porcelain only, and zirconia. Once we fit a dental crown, it provides excellent protection for the tooth underneath. A well-crafted, custom crown can improve the appearance of your smile.

Porcelain dental crowns are often the most effective way to preserve as much of the structural integrity of a damaged tooth as possible while restoring its health, shape, and overall appearance. Custom-crafted to cover the entire surface area of the tooth, dental crowns are an excellent treatment for teeth that are cracked, broken, or structurally weak. By restoring strength to these weaker teeth, our dentists can significantly reduce and often eliminate tooth pain or sensitivity. In the process, porcelain crowns also conceal flaws in the appearance of the teeth, resulting in a more radiant, balanced, and aesthetically pleasing smile.

Preserve the structural integrity of a damaged tooth while restoring its health, shape, and appearance.

Benefits of Dental Crowns
Although there are a variety of options for replacing missing teeth or teeth too damaged to salvage, it is always best to save some of the natural tooth, if at all possible. Aside from the removal of decay or other areas of damage, dental crowns require further reshaping of the natural tooth to accommodate their size. They also protect the basic foundation of the natural tooth, which eventually can be lost if left untreated. As a result, dental crowns help patients avoid more serious future dental problems associated with missing teeth, such as the degradation of the jawbone and other oral tissues, and the shifting of surrounding teeth from their optimal positions.

At Gentle Dental, we use finely crafted porcelain dental crowns in a number of treatments. Sometimes we use them to secure larger fillings in teeth that are fragile or otherwise structurally compromised. They are also used to support the replacement teeth in dental bridges, as well as to replace missing individual teeth when attached to dental implant posts. Dr. Knop, Dr. Ilyabayev and Dr. Gelfand rely on their years of dental expertise to create dental crowns that blend beautifully with surrounding natural teeth, ensuring results that are as cosmetically impressive as they are strong and functional.

Root Canal Therapy

There is perhaps no dental procedure more widely known than the root canal. Yet, it may well be the most misunderstood and unfairly maligned of all dental procedures. Root canal (endodontic) therapy is actually an extremely safe, relatively pain-free treatment that has helped millions of people preserve the health of their teeth across the country. Rather than causing discomfort, root canal therapy is often the most immediate and effective way of relieving excruciating tooth pain.

Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment is an excellent procedure that can save a severely infected tooth, preventing its removal. It gets rid of severe toothache and is no more uncomfortable than a filling. Once the procedure is complete, it helps to prevent the tooth from becoming reinfected.

We prefer to save natural teeth whenever possible, as it is almost always the best solution. Otherwise, we would need to replace the tooth with a dental bridge or a dental implant, both of which would cost more and require more time to complete compared with a root canal procedure.

It’s necessary to know how your tooth is formed to understand a root canal procedure.

The most immediate and effective way of relieving excruciating tooth pain.

Each tooth in the human mouth contains a long, thin strand of pulp that extends down into the root of the tooth. This dental pulp contains nerves, arteries, blood vessels, and connective tissue that can be damaged by decay or injury. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed, the result is often unbearable tooth pain and, over time, the death of the tooth. Root canal therapy involves the removal of this affected pulp through a gap that is created in the natural crown of the tooth. Once the pulp has been removed and the root canal has been cleaned and filled with a material to prevent further infection, the tooth is sealed with a porcelain crown.

One of the primary advantages of root canal therapy is that it allows for the preservation of most of the natural tooth. In addition, our Waterlase® laser dentistry system allows us to perform root canal therapy with absolute precision and without the use of a traditional drill, further taking the anxiety out of a largely pain-free procedure.
