What is the teeth implant procedure?

Teeth implants in Grand Rapids MI are used for supporting your false teeth. These are made with titanium screws and they replace the roots of a tooth that has failed. Just like the root of your tooth, an implant is fixed within your jawbone.

Caring for your implants

Implants are a safe and well-established dental treatment. If you take good care of your implants, they will last for a long time. Good care and keeping up with maintenance appointments will ensure the long life of your implants. When your teeth implants are well cared for and the bone in which they are planted is strong and healthy, they are bound to last long. However, like other surgical implants, these do not offer lifetime guarantee.

Jawbone health for an implant

Implants can be used to replace one or many teeth, it can be one tooth or a set. The use of implants for any missing teeth will depend on the health of your jawbone. Your dentist will do tests to check if there is sufficient bone and if it is healthy to receive an implant. In cases where the bone is not sufficient or healthy, your surgeon will first use bone grafting.

It is easier to put in an implant rather than taking a tooth out, which usually requires a local anesthetic. This ensures that you do not feel the extraction pain but there will be discomfort for about a week after your surgery.

Your surgeon or dentist can give you a fair idea of the time required for the completion of your procedure. False teeth can be fitted in with your implants, and you must check with your surgeon if it is possible in your case as well. Depending on our individual circumstances, the treatment may take longer and your dentist will advise you of a rough estimate before you begin the procedure.

You may require a pain medication after your teeth implant surgery and it is recommended to take some time off. Once your implants have been placed, it takes some time before jaw grows and fuses with the implant.
