What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are thin, usually white or clear plastic coatings that are applied on the tooth or teeth to prevent tooth decay. They are applied on the chewing surface of a tooth which is most likely to be affected by tooth decay. It takes a few minutes to an hour, depending on the number of teeth that are to be sealed, to place dental sealants. The treatment is typically pain-free.
