Cigarettes and your Teeth

Cigarettes and your Teeth

Everybody knows that smoking wreaks havoc on your health. While your teeth may not be the first thing you think of when considering the dangers of smoking, any kind of tobacco use can bring some serious damage to your mouth.

Smoking leads to dental problems, including

 Bad breath,

Tooth discoloration,

Increased loss of bone within the jaw,

Increased buildup of plaque and tartar on the teeth,

Risk of leukoplakia- white patches inside mouth,

Delayed healing process following tooth extraction, periodontal treatment or oral surgery, etc.

STEPS TO TAKE:-

TEETHING

Teething is the process by which an infant's first teeth (the deciduous teeth, often called "baby teeth" or "milk teeth") sequentially appear by emerging through the gums, typically arriving in pairs. The mandibular central incisors are the first primary teeth to erupt, usually between 6 and 10 months of age.[1] It can take several years for all 20 teeth to complete the tooth eruption. Though the process of teething is sometimes referred to as "cutting teeth", when teeth emerge through the gums they do not cut through the flesh. Instead, hormones are released within the body that cause some cells in the gums to die and separate, allowing the teeth to come through.

Teething Symptoms

What’s normal?

  • Fussiness
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Irritability
  • Loss of appetite
  • Drooling more than usual

What’s not normal?

  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Rash

Soothe a Teething Baby

What works to soothe a friend’s baby might not work for yours. You may need to try different things to help your little one feel better.

Often, something cold in your baby’s mouth helps. Try a cold pacifier, spoon, clean wet washcloth, or a solid (not liquid) refrigerated teething toy or ring. Some experts say frozen teething toys are too cold and may hurt your baby’s mouth. Make sure to clean teething toys, washcloths, and other items after the baby uses them.

Babies -- especially those who are teething -- love to chew. It’s OK to let your baby chew as much as she wants. Just make sure you know what she’s putting into her mouth and that it’s safe and clean.

A hard, unsweetened teething cracker can be comforting. If your baby is older than 6-9 months, you can offer cool water from a sippy cup, too.

You can also massage her gums by gently rubbing them with your clean finger. If the teeth haven’t come in yet, you can let your baby gnaw on your finger.

If you’re nursing your baby, try dipping your fingers in cool water and massaging her gums before each feeding. That may keep her from biting you while nursing.

Am I prone to CAVITIES?

You brush twice daily and yet somehow you develop cavities and need to rush to your dentist.

Why does this happen?

Cavities do not depend only upon how often you brush or floss…there are certain other things that can make you prone to cavities.

Tooth decay depends on the amount of available sugar, ability of the mouth to wash away sugar and acids and lastly genetics.

Cavities can’t exist without sugar. Bacteria feast on the sugar present on the tooth surface depending upon your sugar take. So higher the sugar intake, higher risk of tooth decay.

Saliva helps in washing away of plaque and food debris also neutralizing the acid produced by bacteria. So if you tend to have low rate of salivation you should see your dentist right away.

Cavities also depend upon your tooth shape and morphology. Teeth with deeper groves are more prone to tooth decay because it can lead to food lodgment and making it harder to remove.

How can you prevent cavities???

  • Brushing and flossing regularly and usage of fluoridated toothpaste helps in preventing cavities at some extent.
  • Have a proper diet and reduce your sugar intake.
  • Avoid in between snacking.
  • Visit your dentist regularly for oral examination.

7 REASONS FOR YELLOW TEETH

Don’t you feel envious about the movie stars or models because everyone has the perfect smile and sparkling white teeth?

Well, they are in the showbiz, and their appearance is their asset. The majority of these media personalities get the smile corrected at the best Cosmetic dental clinic in Mumbai.

Why do we have yellow teeth? The reasons are many. The blog talks about the seven most common reasons.

#1 Smoking

Why do smokers have yellow teeth? Because the nicotine present in the tobacco causes stubborn stains. Not only that, it loosens the teeth and affects the gums also.

By following good oral hygiene habits and visiting the Best dentist in Mumbai one can reduce the damage. However, the best thing is to quit smoking.

#2 Diet Habits

Consuming food that is high in tannins causes yellowing of the teeth. Also, carbonated drinks, tea, coffee, and wine also do the same effect.

When the enamel of the teeth gets damaged, there is a long-term discoloration. A Cosmetic dental clinic in Mumbai offers treatments to make the teeth white and shining. However, it is equally important to correct dietary habits.

#3 Illness

Certain medical conditions and medication affects the color of the teeth. Stained teeth are common amongst the patients undergoing chemotherapy for neck or head cancers.

Medicines prescribed for Asthma and hypertension also cause yellowing of the teeth.

#4 Poor Oral Hygiene

If you do not clean the teeth properly, then plaque and tartar deposit on the outer surface. Thus, the teeth appear yellowish.

To make the teeth appear white, you need to take efforts. Instead of trying home remedies, you should visit some Cosmetic dental clinic in Mumbai to get the right treatment.

#5 Fluoride

Do you live in an area where there is excessive exposure to fluoride? If yes, then there is a high possibility of yellowing of teeth. Notably, children are more affected by it.

#6 Aging

You like it or not, but as we get old the teeth lose their shining and whiteness. It is quite normal. One shouldn’t worry about it much.

If the yellowing is excessive, then it is possible to correct it by doing cosmetic dentistry procedures and using professional-strength whitening products.

#7 Acid Reflux

Acid reflux, bulimia or vomiting causes harm to the uppermost layer of the teeth. Not only they get eroded but become yellowish as well.

All these prominent reasons make your white teeth yellow.

Easiest Ways To Clean Between Your Teeth

Easiest Ways To Clean Between Your Teeth

As we know, brushing is the easiest way to keep teeth clean. However, what happens in between our teeth? These areas are inaccessible with our normal brush. Hence,  flossing at least once a day is recommended, making this yet another habit in our daily hygiene routine.

Why interdental cleaning?   Red or bleeding gums can be an indication of accumulating dirt  that cannot be reached. Therefore cleaning in between your teeth can  improve both gum and general oral health. There are some steps we can take to eliminate bleeding gums. These are simple tips to help you to maintain gum health.

Dental Floss

For a good clean in between the teeth, the most common option is the use of dental floss. Flossing helps to remove the sticky film called plaque accumulated in between the teeth. Generally, this is the ideal option if the gap is very narrow.

Water Jets

Water Jets or Oral Irrigators work using a pressurized stream of water or mouthwash to dislodge plaque from the gum margin, the gaps between the teeth. Water jets are easier to use and work efficiently.

FUN FACTS ABOUT SALIVA

Saliva is a fluid produced and secreted by salivary glands in the mouth. In humans, saliva is 99.5 % water plus electrolytes, mucus, white blood cells, epithelial cells, enzymes, antimicrobial agents such as secretory IgA, and lyzozomes.

  1. When you are nervous or frightened, saliva production is reduced.

Suck on sugar-free hard candies, ice chips, or sugar-free popsicles. Chew sugarless gum (gums containing the sugar xylitol). These sucking and chewing actions help stimulate saliva flow.

  1. Saliva is critical in allowing you to chew, taste and swallow foods and beverages.

The digestive functions of saliva include moistening food, and helping to create a food bolus, so it can be swallowed easily. Saliva contains the enzyme amylase that breaks some starches down into maltose and dextrin. Thus, digestion of food occurs within the mouth, even before food reaches the stomach.

  1. Saliva contains antibodies the help promote skin healing and growth.

Saliva contains tissue factor which promotes the blood clotting mechanism. The enzyme lysozyme is found in many tissues and is known to attack the cell walls of many gram-positive bacteria, aiding in defense against infection

  1. Saliva is the primary defense against tooth decay.

Saliva protects teeth against cavities more than we thought. It contains salivary mucins, compounds that actively protect teeth from damage by the cavity-causing bacterium Streptococcus mutans, according to a new study.

  1. Saliva contains a person’s entire genetic blueprint.

A single drop of saliva contains a sufficient DNA sample to determine your complete genetic makeup.

  1. You can get salivary gland stones similar to kidney stones.

A salivary gland stone -- also called salivary duct stone -- is a calcified structure that may form inside a salivary gland or duct. It can block the flow of saliva into the mouth. The majority of stones affect the submandibular glands located at the floor of the mouth.

The stones cause no symptoms as they form, but if they reach a size that blocks the duct, saliva backs up into the gland, causing pain and swelling. You may feel the pain off and on, and it may get progressively worse. Inflammation and infection within the affected gland may follow.

The current world record for the longest salivary stone is 37mm long.

In such case, you should visit your dentist at the earliest for further evaluation.

Are you brushing properly?

3701049530?profile=RESIZE_710xNot sure how to brush your teeth the right way? Even the most experienced of us can use some tips to improve technique! While brushing teeth is not the only way to keep your teeth healthy, it’s a great weapon in your fight against cavities.

How to brush your teeth the right way?

There is a correct way to brush your teeth, and this is what it looks like.

  1. Place the toothbrush against your teeth without putting too much pressure.

Brushing too hard can wear down your enamel and hurt your gums.

  1. Sweep the toothbrush gently tooth by tooth.

Spend few seconds on each tooth and remember to cover all outer, inner and chewing surfaces!

  1. Apply only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste.

Bristles do the work for you, so don’t overdo it with the toothpaste – it will only go to waste.

  1. Replace your toothbrush head frequently.

You can only maintain a healthy mouth with effective toothbrush. Worn bristles won’t remove the plaque properly.

DENTURES VS IMPLANTS

When you are missing one, some, or all of your teeth, these are two main options that dentists typically recommend.

Each of these treatments has its own list of pros and cons that may make it a better option for your situation. Consider these dentures vs implants: pros and cons to make an informed decision that will benefit your long-term health.

Advantages of Dentures

Dentures are less costly than implants and therefore are the most affordable option for some patients.

The process to create the dentures is non-invasive. No surgery required.

If additional teeth are lost in the future, it is easy to modify the dentures to accommodate the lossThey’re easy to care for. Just brush and floss as you do your natural teeth.

Disadvantages of Dentures

They do not look as natural as dental implants.

They must be removed and thoroughly cleaned regularly. Many patients find the cleaning of cups and adhesives undesirable because they are messy and expensive.

Dentures are not worn overnight.

Sometimes dentures slip around making it difficult to speak and eat.

Certain foods cannot be eaten with dentures. Examples include caramel, apples and corn on the cob.

There’s an increased risk of gum disease if food is trapped under the dentures.

They frequently need replacement (every 3 to 6 years compared to 20+ years for dental implants). Also, they’ll break if dropped, requiring replacement.

Partial dentures are known to weaken the adjacent natural teeth that provide support for the dentures.

Advantages of Implants

Implants look and feel like natural teeth since the root and tooth is replaced.

Implants allow you to eat any food including things that are sticky and crunchy.

Dental implants don’t affect speech.

Bones and adjacent teeth are preserved. Further deterioration is not a problem. They’re less likely to require future dental procedures.

With proper care, dental implants will last for decades.

Disadvantages of Implants

They can be expensive.

Surgical procedure(s) is required

At the end of the day, you’ll need to work with your dentist to determine which is the best choice for your personal situation.

Dental veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are attached to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. They’re often made from porcelain or resin-composite materials and are permanently bonded to your teeth.

Veneers can be used to treat different cosmetic concerns, including chipped, broken, discolored, or smaller-than-average teeth.

Some people may only get one veneer in the case of a broken or chipped tooth, but many get between six to eight veneers in order to create an even, symmetrical smile. The top front eight teeth are the most commonly applied veneers.

What's the Procedure for Getting a Dental Veneer?

Getting a dental veneer usually requires three trips to the dentist – one for a consultation and two to make and apply the veneers.  It is best to get the treatment done from a cosmetic dentist near you.

Diagnosis and treatment planning. This first step involves your active participation. Explain to your dentist the result that you are trying to achieve. During this appointment, your dentist will examine your teeth discuss what the procedure will involve. He or she also may take X-rays and make impressions of your mouth and teeth.

Preparation- To prepare a tooth for a veneer, your dentist will remove about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the tooth surface, which is an amount nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added to the tooth surface. Before trimming off the enamel, you and your dentist will decide the need for a local anesthetic to numb the area. Next, your dentist will make a model or impression of your tooth. This model is sent out to a dental laboratory, which in turn constructs your veneer. It usually takes 5-7 working days for your dentist to receive the veneers back from the laboratory. Temporary dental veneers are generally placed so patient can get an idea about how his/her teeth will look and if any changes are required.

Bonding - Before the dental veneer is permanently cemented to your tooth, your dentist will temporarily place it on your tooth to examine its fit and color. Veneer color can be adjusted with the shade of cement to be used. Next, to prepare your tooth to receive the veneer, your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched -- which roughens the tooth to allow for a strong bonding process. A special cement is applied to the veneer and the veneer is then placed on your tooth. Once properly position on the tooth, your dentist will apply a special light beam to the dental veneer, which activates chemicals in the cement, causing it to harden or cure very quickly. The final steps involve removing any excess cement, evaluating your bite and making any final adjustments in the veneer as necessary. Your dentist may ask you to return for a follow-up visit in a couple of weeks to check how your gums are responding to the presence of your veneer and to once again examine the veneer's placement. This how you can make your dream smile a reality!

Benefits of Fluoride

Fluoride, also known as “nature’s cavity fighter”, is a mineral compound derived from an abundant chemical element called fluorine, the 13th most abundant element in the earth’s crust. It occurs naturally in many foods and water.

Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth.

In children under 6 years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize teeth.

One of the most well-known benefits of fluoride is its ability to protect tooth’s enamel.

A final significant benefit of fluoride is that it serves as a natural preventative for your teeth.

How does fluoride work?

Fluoride is concentrated in the saliva that bathes the teeth --->Remineralize tooth enamel to build a strong, cavity resistant outer surface --->Decreases bacterial activity in the mouth

“Fluoride cannot remove decay but, while creating a stronger outer surface to your teeth, it can help stop the decay from penetrating into the deeper parts of teeth…”

….Be true to your teeth and they won’t be false to you…

If you and your family members haven’t used fluoride on your teeth yet, then it’s time to start considering it. For more ways on how to keep a healthy and bright smile setup a consultation at Dr. Krinita Motwani’s dental clinic.

Professional Teeth Cleaning

There is a common misconception that brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash will suffice for dental health. The little-known truth is an at-home dental hygiene routine will only do so much for the teeth and gums. Professional teeth cleaning performed by experienced oral health professionals is essential for dental health and aesthetic appeal. If you have not had your teeth professionally cleaned in the past six months, you can simply search for best dentist near me and  schedule an appointment with the dentist. Here's why.

Professional Teeth Cleaning is Thorough:

Professional dental instruments are necessary to clean deeply set plaque.3630787241?profile=RESIZE_710x As an example, scaling and planning tools are necessary to clean away tartar that has built up around the teeth in areas that are especially difficult (or impossible) to clean with merely floss and a toothbrush. This in-depth cleaning with specialized instruments really will eliminate that nasty dental film, plaque, food particles and other threats to oral health.

Professional Teeth Cleaning is Essential for Cavity Prevention

Plaque is the top cause of cavities. A professional cleaning is necessary to eliminate plaque and clean all those cramped areas in your mouth you cannot clean on your own. Plaque gradually accumulates on the teeth, leaving a film-like substance that attacks dental enamel. This enamel cannot be replaced. Teeth gradually decay as the enamel dissipates. This decay will gradually spur surprisingly large cavities. A professional cleaning is the only way to ensure all the cavity-causing plaque is completely gone.

Professional Teeth Cleanings Maintain Oral Health

If you do not meet with the dentist or visit the dentist once every couple of years, your oral health will suffer. Cleanings are only one aspect of dental office visits. Meeting with the dentist gives you a chance to pick this professional's brain about your oral health. The dentist will provide insightful guidance that keeps your teeth and gums healthy and beautiful. Skip your dental appointments and you will run the risk of having an unidentified oral health problem that worsens as time progresses. Early detection is essential to thwarting dental issues before they progress to major problems that significantly compromise oral health. As an example, 6-month dental visits provide the dentist with an opportunity to identify the early signs of oral cancer and take immediate action.

 Polishing

The next step is to 'polish' the teeth to make the surface really smooth. While polishing removes stains leaving teeth bright and shiny, it is not just a cosmetic procedure. It also smoothes away minor imperfections and patches of rough texture on the teeth to protect against further plaque build-up.

Your dentist will advise you how often you should get your teeth cleaned professionally. It's important to remember that professional cleaning is an addition to a good daily oral health routine and should never replace twice daily brushing with a fluoride toothpaste.

We at Dr Krinita Motwani’s Multispeciality Dental Clinic believe in providing the best dental care to our patients. Book your appointment now, call us at +91 9820280343 or visit us at http://www.drkrinitamotwani.com

Bad Breath: Causes and Treatment

Bad breath or halitosis isn’t something to ignore. Almost everyone experiences bad breath once in a while. But for some people, bad breath is a daily problem. Most of the people are not aware of their own halitosis and learn about it from a relative, friend or coworker, causing some degree of discomfort and distress.

 Facts on bad breath

  • Bad breath is a common problem that can cause significant psychological distress.
  • It is the third most common reason that people seek dental care after tooth decay and gum diseases.what

What causes bad breath?

Bad breath can originate both outside and inside of the mouth. It is typically caused by bacteria present on the teeth and debris on the tongue. So it’s no surprise that most cases of halitosis are associated with poor oral hygiene. Other causes are as follows:-

Food and beverages:

Foods are absorbed into your blood stream and move to the lungs, affecting the air you exhale. Common offenders are:

  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Cheese
  • Alcohol
  • Soda or orange juice
  • Certain spices

Dry mouth:

Saliva is needed to cleanse the mouth. If you don’t have enough of it, simply having a dry mouth can cause bad breath.

Health problems:

  • Diabetes
  • Liver or kidney diseases
  • Sinus infection
  • Gastrointestinal problems

PREVENTION AND TREATMENT

………. Prevention is always better than cure ……….!

Best method to reduce halitosis is good oral hygiene. That means brushing your teeth at least twice a day followed up with flossing to reach those places the brush doesn’t. Don’t forget to schedule cleanings with dentist every six months. Our team at Dr. Krinita Motwani’s dental clinic provides additional ideas on how to maintain fresh breath.

DIY Teeth Whitening: Busting Myth

We all have heard about the ongoing trend where people are using materials that are readily available in the kitchen to whiten teeth. As easy and fun it may sound, we all have heard half knowledge is dangerous and same goes for this procedure.

Thanks to the development in the modern dentistry, getting teeth whitening done is a quick and safe process in a Cosmetic dental clinic in Mumbai.

To whiten the teeth, the professionals use products with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide at a set concentration approved by FDA in a gel or paste form and the dentist will apply either a protective gel to your gums or a rubber shield to protect your gums, bleaching gel is then applied to the teeth. Attaining this concentration at home at the specific quantity is not possible to do at home with over the counter products and can do more harm.

Hazards of Whitening at home.

Teeth Sensitivity

However, when it comes to DIY teeth whitening, there are dangers involved. For instance one survey of one hundred people done by the University of Southern California School of Dentistry in 2002 revealed that half of the participants experienced sensitivity after using a whitening gel that was available over the counter.  One out of twenty five participants experienced severe pain in the mouth.

Other side effects of DIY teeth whitening include uneven whiteness, blush enamel and gum irritation. If the chemicals manage to seep into unfilled cavities that users may not have known they had or seeped into cracked teeth, the internal painful damage can lead to a root canal.

The issue arises when people do not really stop using them when there are clear signs that they should. The culprit may be that after a teeth whitening product, teeth do not remain white for long.

They begin going back to the color they used to be after a while. This is particularly true with coffee drinkers, wine drinkers or smokers, which all involve substances that stain teeth easily.

Safe Alternative:

Tooth whitening done professionally is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures. A non-invasive method of lightening dark or discoloured teeth. It is better to consult your dentist about your concerns and get their professional opinion.

Our team at Dr. Krinita Motwani’s Multi-speciality Dental Clinic specializing in cosmetic dentistry is equipped with the best facilities and provides the best treatment as per patient’s needs.

A perfect smile takes years to accomplish, most often with uncomfortable braces that aren’t the most aesthetic choice always… Thankfully that’s no longer the case. Now you can get your perfect smile with cosmetic dentistry that involves no uncomfortable procedures but just a gentle touch!!!

Cosmetic dentistry procedures include the following.

Teeth whitening, dental bonding, veneers, smile makeovers

Teeth whitening…

Teeth get discolored with age due to wearing off of enamel. There are many other reasons like excessive consumption of tea, coffee and aerated drinks which also contribute in discoloring your teeth. Well, all this can be sorted and you can get back your lost shine in just an hour by getting teeth whitening done.

Dental bonding…

This is the quickest way to get the most perfect teeth. Your dentist will properly isolate your tooth by using cotton rolls / rubber dam. After that a soft tooth like material is bonded directly to your teeth in multiple thin layers and hardened with a UV light. This layering is done till the desired shade and shape is achieved. The final result is closest in appearance to that of surrounding natural teeth.

Veneers

If you are going for veneers ,your dentist will make study models of your teeth so that you can get an idea of what your teeth can look like when the porcelain veneers are in place. Once these models are approved, an appointment can be set up for the actual procedure. Local anesthesia is generally recommended if there will be tooth preparation to avoid any discomfort. Once the preparation of your teeth is completed your dentist will make an impression of your teeth. This impression will be used by the dental laboratory to create your custom porcelain veneers. Initially your dentist will place the veneers to check that the color, shape and size is as desired. If they meet all your expectations, the dentist will bond them to your teeth creating your new smile.

Smile makeover

Smile makeover involves altering the shape, size, shade and position of your front teeth to give you a perfect smile. This new smile is designed in harmony with your lips, face shape, complexion, personality type etc. There are various procedures like dental bonding, veneers, tooth reshaping, teeth whitening etc. which aid in creating great smiles…

CRACKED TOOTH

2932968242?profile=RESIZE_710x

Having a cracked tooth may not seem like a big deal especially if it is not causing any pain. But it is not the case usually. Dr Krinita Motwani who is amongst the top 10 dentists in Mumbai suggest otherwise. It wont be long before cracked tooth starts giving you a problem as bacteria will slowly seep into it and will develop into a decay or infection.

Most of the times, teeth crack if they are weak, heavily filled , badly decayed or if you clench or grind your teeth as well. Cracked teeth are usually pain-free but are sensitive to cold and they also cause pain during chewing .These are a few symptoms you might experience but a cracked tooth may also cause such excruciating pain that you might need an emergency extraction.

Why do teeth crack?

Extreme teeth grinding or clenching at night causes more stress than usual resulting in a cracked tooth or multiple teeth

Under-contoured or over done fillings exert pressure on the walls of the teeth causing them to crack

Chewing on pencils, ice, hard food stuffs or opening cans with teeth are definitely a reason for your teeth to crack.

If there is presence of gum diseases, there are chances of tooth root to fracture.

Abrupt changes in temperature in the mouth for eg eating something hot and then trying to cool your mouth with ice water

With age most teeth cracks occur in people over 50 years.

Dr Krinita Motwani who is an experienced dentist in khar shares with us that diagnosing a cracked tooth maybe tricky. X rays may or may not be able to reveal cracked teeth. Your dentist will make an X ray or try to examine the tooth with a probe. A cracked tooth may also have swollen gums around it. Also during chewing you may feel pain when you release your bite

How do you treat a cracked tooth?

Usually a tooth can crack in many ways. It can range from a tiny mm upto the crown and may extend till the root. Cracked teeth can be managed by filling, root canals or by using a splint to hold it in place. If the damage is unmanageable then the tooth needs to be extracted.

At Dr Krinita Motwani’s dental clinic, our team assists you with the same with the best possible treatment and also making your appointment as pain-free as possible.

Whether you need the replacement of one tooth or wear a complete set of dentures, you are always worried about the effectiveness and utility of the new teeth.

The removable dentures are comfortable to wear, but they have inherent problems. They may slip or fall. Even a single tooth replacement or bridge may also become less functional.

Thanks to the development in medical science, the new dental implants emerge as a useful alternative. The best Dentist in Bandra helps you in getting a permanent improvement in the appearance.

Discomfort in chewing or malfunctioning of the teeth happens when there is a partial loss of teeth. With the help of dental implants, it is possible to get new teeth that look, feel and work like the natural ones.

If you think that the implant is a solution for a lost tooth only, then you are mistaken. It is used by cosmetic dentists to enhance the appearance and correct the gaps in your smile.

Why choose dental implants?

Dr Krinita Motwani is amongst the top 10 dentist in Mumbai who offers a wide range of cosmetic dental treatments including dental implants.

Since the implants are incredibly stable, durable, and long-lasting; they give the feeling of natural teeth.

When you lose a tooth, the bone supporting the tooth shrinks. The socket that holds the tooth recedes, and the bone gets smaller and smaller over time.

The typical “sunken-faced” look is a sign of reduction in the bone size. When the bone shrinks continuously, it results in further tooth loss.

Though restoration methods such as dental bridge slow down the shifting of teeth, it doesn’t prevent the bone loss. Thus, ultimately the person faces the same trouble.

What is the solution then? It is nothing but the dental implant. A top dentist in Mumbai checks the condition of the teeth and offers the best-fit implant solution.

What Is a Dental Implant?

The dental implant cost in Mumbai has come down drastically in the past few years. It is a simple procedure that doesn’t need any hospitalization.

The dental implant is like any other permanent surgical material. It integrates with the bone gradually and becomes part of it.

The implants are made from titanium. Due to its incredible ability to integrate with bone; it is the material of choice.

Small titanium screws are about the size of the root of the natural teeth. It is threaded inside and outside. Once it gets fixed in the bone, the appropriate crown is fixed on the head of the implant.

Dental implants give amazing functional and cosmetic benefits.

Varieties of implants

Standard implants: It is for the replacement of one tooth. Once the implant heals, it is added with a crown.

Implant supported bridge: It is for the replacement of more than one tooth and a perfect replacement for partial dentures. One or more implants support a bridge that stays in the mouth.

All-on-four or All-on-six: They give permanent full-mouth restoration. The fixed bridges replace all teeth. The stability and functionality are marvelous.

How to choose the best cosmetic dentist?

You need to go to the number one Dentist in Bandra for the best results. The success of cosmetic dentistry largely depends on the expertise of the doctor.

Here are some important aspects.

Choose a trained and professional dentist

Every cosmetic dentist has fundamental training, but you should consider a doctor who has achieved something beyond that.

When the doctor gets the advanced training and experience, he becomes specialist. The quality of treatment dramatically improves.

Dr Krinita Motwani who is one of the top 10 dentist in Mumbai says that continued education in the field is very important to keep oneself updated with the latest technology and newest methods of beautifying teeth. This can be done by attending conferences and being affiliated with the right organizations and institutions like IAACD (Indian Academy of Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry) or AACD (American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry) etc .

The list of official memberships can be found online. If a doctor has professional membership, it means he is undoubtedly better than others.

The doctor should be an expert in the niche

The list of cosmetic dentistry procedures is quite long. From teeth whitening to straightening, smile correction to dental implants; there are many choices.

When you search for the cosmetic dentist, you must check the area of expertise. If you want to know about it, then see the images of the past work.

Most cosmetic dentists keep the ‘Before’ and ‘After’ images in the website. Check them before you fix the appointment.

Patient reviews

The opinion of patients about the doctor is another crucial aspect. What is the success rate of the cosmetic dentist? How much complex cases has he handled so far?

What is the overall satisfaction level? All these things determine the quality of treatment.

The most sought procedure is a dental implant.  The drop in the dental implant cost in Mumbai makes it further popular.

As the other cosmetic dental treatments also become affordable, more people get benefited by it. An expert cosmetic dentist can bring incredible improvement in the appearance.

BAD ORAL HABITS FOR KIDS

A habit is a routine or behaviour that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously.

Habits are the most frequent cause of malformations mostly seen in early childhood and mixed dentition stages

COMMON ORAL HABITS

A few common oral habits are

Mouth Breathing- If your child regularly sleeps with their mouth open then they are breathing from their mouth. It looks harmless but mouth breathing has its own implications. Over time mouth breathing leads to abnormal facial growth and development. Chronic mouth breathing in kids can cause an elongated face, misalignment or crowding of teeth, tooth decay, gum diseases, throat infections, etc. Mouth breathing also causes bad breath, dry mouth and enlarged tonsils

Thumb sucking- It is a reflex action in babies in the first few months. Once swallowing is established it disappears around 4 months .IF CONTINUED Children may exhibit protrusive front teeth, open bite, etc

Tongue Thrusting- Tongue thrust appears when the tongue presses too forward in the mouth resulting in an open bite. It is normal in  babies who are bottle fed. As the child grows the swallowing and speaking habit evolves. However in some children tongue thrusting is prolonged. Dental problems such as overbite, protrusive upper teeth, hampered speech development arise

Bruxism- Bruxism happens during deep sleep phases or when kids are under stress but usually kids outgrow it. Bruxism causes wear of enamel, sensitivity of teeth, jaw pain, headache and also diminishes sleep quality etc

Lip Biting- Many children occasionally bite their lip but if they are not stopped, lip biting becomes a habit. Physical causes of lip biting include teeth alignment, overbite and underbite and are seen in children with lip biting. Few children who feel anxious also bite their lip which leads to swelling and bruised.

It is always advisable to check bad oral habits in time to avoid further dental problems.

At Dr Krinita Motwanis clinic , children are put at ease and treatments are done comfortably
